Why choose our practice?

What makes CBT-I useful?

  • Focused on insomnia

The treatment addresses sleep schedules, bedtime habits and worries that make sleep more difficult.

  • Skills beyond the appointments

The aim is to help patients manage their sleep after the course is complete.

  • Licensed practitioners

Patients receive CBT-I from clinicians licensed to practice in Maryland.

  • Coverage checked early

We review insurance benefits before the first visit and bill the accepted plan.

  • Communication that supports care

Once your patient authorizes communication, our clinician can discuss the care plan and progress with you.

Adults who may be suitable for CBT-I

We assess patients with concerns such as:

  • Trouble falling asleep or returning to sleep at least three nights weekly for three months or more.
  • Insomnia alongside an otherwise managed anxiety or mood condition.
  • Persistent sleep difficulties during apnea treatment, or a wish to avoid additional sleep medication.

A focused addition to your patient’s therapy

Insomnia may need specific treatment even when a patient is already in therapy. CBT-I can address that need while the patient continues their other care.

The clinician helps the patient establish a sleep schedule based on their daily diary.

Suspect sleep apnea too?

Sleep apnea and insomnia commonly overlap. Our clinicians manage the insomnia and coordinate referrals to partners for apnea treatment when required.

Score your own sleep

Answer all seven questions about the past two weeks. The Insomnia Severity Index adds your answers into a score between 0 and 28. This calculator does not submit a referral or add results to a medical record at Maryland Sleep Center.

For the first three questions, please rate the current (last 2 weeks) severity of your insomnia problem(s):

1. Difficulty falling asleep
2. Difficulty staying asleep
3. Problem waking up too early
4. How satisfied/dissatisfied are you with your current sleep pattern?
5. How noticeable to others do you think your sleep problem is in terms of impairing the quality of your life?
6. How worried/distressed are you about your current sleep problem?
7. To what extent do you consider your sleep problem to interfere with your daily functioning (e.g., daytime fatigue, mood, ability to function at work or with daily chores, concentration, memory) currently?

A score is not a diagnosis. Discuss the result and your sleep history with a licensed clinician. A referral to Maryland Sleep Center does not require a particular score.

1

We contact your patient

Maryland scheduling staff follow up with your patient to arrange an assessment and explain coverage.

2

Treatment begins

The initial assessment takes about 50 minutes and reviews sleep history, prior treatment and medications. Follow-up visits are usually weekly, with the main course lasting six to eight weeks. The patient keeps a sleep diary, and the clinician uses it to adjust the plan and review progress.

3

We keep you informed

Once your patient authorizes communication, our clinician can discuss the care plan and progress with you.

Most patients receive video care from a Maryland-licensed clinician. A limited number of clinicians also see patients in person at our Baltimore office; the scheduling team confirms availability. Patients must be within Maryland throughout their appointments.
